Illinois Co-ops Offering Wind Product

Eight Illinois-based distribution cooperatives served by Continental Cooperative Services (CCS)/Soyland generation and transmission cooperative are offering their customers a wind energy purchase option. In partnership with Community Energy, Inc., a national retail marketer of wind-generated power, the co-ops have unveiled the EcoEnergy program, through which customers can purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) supplied from the 54.5-MW Crescent Ridge Windpower Project located near Princeton, IL. The product is available in increments of 200-kWh, 300-kWh, or 400-kWh at a rate premium of 3¢/kWh. The charge will appear on the monthly bill of participating customers, who must agree to enroll for a minimum of one year.

The eight electric cooperatives offering the program are: Coles-Moultrie, Shelby, Eastern Illini, Rural Electric Convenience, Menard, Spoon River, McDonough Power, and Adams. Collectively, the utilities serve about 65,000 retail customers.
