Inspiration & Information at Renewable Energy Fair, Custer, Wisconsin
The world's largest renewable energy educational event, the Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Fair, returns on June 17th-19th, 2005 to Custer, WI! The Fair promises to be the best yet, with inspirational keynote addresses from authors Dan Chiras and David Bornstein and Appalachian Mountain activist, Dianne Bady. Dan Chiras will give a keynote address on Friday, June 17th at 1pm. Dan is a walk-the-talk solar and green building consultant and president of Sustainable Systems Design. His best-selling book The Natural House: A Complete Guide to Healthy, Energy-Efficient, Environmental Homes provides an in-depth look at 14 natural building techniques, the pros and cons of each, and offers practical information on energy systems, water systems, and green building materials-which could save people thousands of dollars. David Bornstein in his book, How to Change the World: Social Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas shows that with perseverance and creativity, anyone can make a surprising difference, and thus change the world. This book tells the stories of social entrepreneurs who are addressing social problems all over the world and tells of a massive transformation going on around the world: the growth of the nonprofit sector, where millions of ordinary people solve problems when governments and bureaucracies have failed. Find out how these social entrepreneurs succeeded in his keynote address on Saturday, June 18th at 1pm. Dianne Bady is the founder and co-leader of the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition (OVEC), which has focused on saving the Appalachian Mountains from the destruction of mountaintop removal and valley-strip mining. In this mining process, the devastation of the mountain is three-fold: thousands of acres have been leveled, the valleys have been filled and hundreds of miles of stream buried; the repeated blasts and elimination of forest has caused cataclysmic flooding; not to mention the respiratory diseases and death caused by the mining. Dianne's vision is to employ a grassroots method of leadership, allowing the victims and concerned citizens to be the voice of change. Bady will speak about fighting the good fight on Sunday, June 19th at 1pm.
