On behalf of Ryan Wiser:

I’d like to announce the completion of the latest addition to the LBNL/CESA Clean Energy Fund Case Study Series: “The Impact of State Clean Energy Fund Support for Utility-Scale Renewable Energy Projects.”

CESA – the Clean Energy States Alliance – is a multi-state collaboration among most of the state renewable energy funds. These funds, currently in place in 14 states, collect more than $300 million a year in support of renewable energy markets. The case study series, of which the present paper is a part, shares the emerging experiences of these state clean energy funds.

This particular case study seeks to comprehensively summarize the support that state clean energy funds have provided to utility-scale renewable energy projects, detailing – among other things – the amount of funds obligated and the number, capacity, and resource type of projects supported. The study focuses on CESA-member funded renewable energy projects over 1 MW in size that have been supported through operational or construction support.

We find that these state funds have obligated $345 million in support of 2,288 MW of new renewable energy capacity so far, with 707 MW already on-line.

The case is based on a spreadsheet database that will be updated periodically to provide a running summary of state activity in this area; the database contains information on all non-solar, utility-scale new renewable projects that have received construction or operational supported from CESA-member funds.

We hope you find this case study and associated database helpful in your efforts and, as always, we welcome any feedback that you might have. The case study itself can be found at http://eetd.lbl.gov/ea/ems/cases/LBNL-56422.pdf. The entire case study series – as well as the database that supports the present case study – can be found at http://eetd.lbl.gov/ea/ems/cases/EMP_case.html.

We appreciate the funding support of the U.S. Department of Energy and the Clean Energy States Alliance in making this work possible, and apologize in advance for any cross-postings.
