Be careful! Major developer rarely ever have the landowners' or communities' best interests in mind. If possible, explore options of community ownership where you have the opportunity to own the turbines by partnering with other local people.

Hey Teo,
Thanks for posting to the forum. Your question is actually a bit trickier than you might expect. There are many different ways to structure a lease or easement for wind energy development. We've got some basic information about things to think about on our website at http://www.windustry.org/leases. However, more importantly, you need to hire a lawyer who is experienced in wind energy. This is critical! Most wind leases last for a long time, and even though a lawyer may seem expensive, it will be worth it in the long run. You may also want to hire a tax professional to help you figure out the tax implications of any agreement you're thinking of signing. Marin Marin Byrne Windustry marin@windustry.org 612-870-3469 |
