Hi Patrice,
Thanks for your post. I actually moved to MN from NC about a yer ago. From what I experienced, NC was a tough state to crack for wind, but I do see that great progress is being made, both in terms of policy and regulation, so I believe it is only a matter of time before we see substantial wind there. Where in North Carolina are you interested in planning a wind farm? As you may have already noticed, the only real viable regions of the state are in the mountains in the western part of the state, and in the coastal region. There are certain regulatory barriers facing wind in these regions. The North Carolina Mountain Ridge Protection act is one obstacle in the west. And there are Coastal Management Zones that have thus far prevented wind in the east. But, there are groups on both ends of the state working to progress through these issues. For more information on wind in NC, contact: Appalachian State University (Boone, NC): www.wind.appstate.edu The NC Solar Center (Raleigh, NC): www.ncsc.ncsu.edu The State Energy Office: www.energync.net Hope this is a helpful start. Let me know if you're looking for further information. |
