The US General Accounting Office released a new report this month on "Wind Power's Contribution to Electric Power Generation and Impact on Farms and Rural Communities".
Windustry and many others worked with GAO on this report. It covers the following points: (1) the amount of wind power generation in relation to all U.S. electricity generation and the prospects for wind power's growth, (2) the contribution of wind power generation to farmers' income and to the economic well-being of rural communities in the 10 states with the highest wind power generation capacity, (3) the advantages and disadvantages for farmers of owning a wind power project versus leasing their land to a commercial wind power developer, and (4) the efforts of USDA to promote the development of wind power on farms and in rural communities. http://www.gao.gov/docsearch/abstract.php?rptno=GAO-04-756 |
