TOP 20 GREEN SCHOOLS

http://www.thegreenguide.com/docprint.mhtml?i=115&s=toptenschools

For two years now the national organization The Green Guide invited over 2,500 K-12 schools to participate in a green schools survey. During 2006 in-depth responses were gathered from 67 of the most environmentally-committed schools in the U.S., and 20 schools - including two in Minnesota - ranked tops.

Bluff Creek Elementary School in Chanhassen scored number 12, featuring a prairie restoration program, local foods in the cafeteria, and an indoor and outdoors integrated pest management program that eliminated pesticides. Westwood Elementary School in Zimmerman ranked number 19, featuring a LEED-certified building, using the school as a teaching device through student-led tours, and waste reduced by reusing dishes and silverware.

Schools were ranked on numerous criteria within 10
categories:

1. Green Building and Construction
2. Electricity Supply
3. Food
4. Recycling
5. Procurement Policies
6. Transportation
7. Environmental Curriculum
8. Environmental Contaminants
9. School Green Spaces
10. Environmental Quality

Read the in-depth article at the web page above to learn about the criteria and for the inspiring accomplishments of the top 20 schools.

Sincerely,

Richard Huelskamp
