Forgive the VAWT newbie question. But does anyone know what the effect would be of putting a independently mounted / self wind aligning vertical quarter(or more) pipe to block and deflect wind from hitting the 'blades' on their up wind journey? Id imagine it would reduce up wind drag on the rotating element, but might cause some strange pressure areas which would nullify the benefit. A physics based explanation would be helpful.
