In theory, the only minimum is having enough wind to make your turbine turn and generate power, which varies by model. But, in reality for a wind project to be successful, you would look for a site with wind speeds of at least 6 to 7 meters/second or 14 to 15 miles per hour at 50 meters above the ground. The more wind the better.

Power in the wind is the cubic function of the wind speed. The higher the average wind is, the more power a wind turbine can generate. It is better to choose the area where average wind speed is over 3m/second. www.wind-turbine.cn for more information
